string(111) we give a quickly concentrate on the stake-of-the-specialty of current imaging frameworks that look to achieve expansive FOV. To start with, permit ‘s determine the term †â€Å" omnidirectional † . The term â€Å" omnidirectional † is gets from a prefix â€Å" omni † which frames the criticalness â€Å" all † or â€Å" each † while â€Å" directional † is bespeaking a route in endless. Thus, this term â€Å" omnidirectional † suggests an equivalent affectability in all directional. We will compose a custom paper test on Taking a gander At The Term Omnidirectional Imaging Film Studies Essay or on the other hand any comparable subject just for you Request Now Ordinarily, this term is generally utilized in the broadcast communications field, for example, omnidirectional mike which is a gadget that can get sound from surrounding it. Other than this, an omnidirectional elevated can coordinate or have flags each piece great in all waies and a VHF omnidirectional extension ( VOR ) is utilized as a remote pilotage framework for airplane. Because of the progressing of the building, the utilization has been extended to other field of plans. For delineation, an omnidirectional treadmill is utilized as a treadmill that permits a person to stroll in any capacity without voyaging. Other than this, there is an exceptionally configuration wheel that permits movement in any capacity and regularly use into machines which is called Mecanum Wheel. In picture taking, an omnidirectional camera is a camera that can see every one of the 360 evaluations around it. These executions have alluded to the impression of bing inside and out. Omnidirectional creative mind shows a 360 levels visual position which has a comparable develop with an omnidirectional camera. Such a creative mind is of import in a few nations, for example, security power. The security power applies this build as a visual reconnaissance which can chop down the offense rates and increment the wellbeing of the masses as appeared in Figure 1. This is because of the omnidirectional vision shows an expansive edge of position which can see around 360 evaluations. Figure 1: The camera with hemispherical FOV for huge nation observation application The omnidirectional picture is round structure and should be opened up to get a bird’s-eye picture as portrayed in Figure 2. ( a ) ( B ) Figure 2: Image taken by an omnidirectional camera with an expanded mirror. Figure ( a ) shows the omnidirectional picture. Figure ( B ) shows the comparing bird’s-eye picture. Albeit omnidirectional pictures permit expanding the field of position ( FOV ) , a few employments emerge. Anamorphosis in omnidirectional pictures presents multifaceted nature in picture preparing and perusing, for example, optical stream count. Optical stream is processed from pictures spatio-fleeting inferred capacities so as to measure the obvious signal in a computerized picture grouping. Utilizing suitable signal hypothetical records, the pels clear motion can be identified with the camera motion. Refering omnidirectional pictures, a basic camera interlingual interpretation infers a complex clear signal. To be sure, a camera interlingual version does non deliver an apparent interlingual interpretation of the considerable number of pels in the picture. Figure 3 has portrayed both status clarified previously. Figure: Pixels motion for an old style camera interlingual version ( a ) what's more, for an omnidirectional camera ( B ) Customary cameras utilized in machine vision either have a tight field of position ( FOV ) or have an expansive FOV yet experience the ill effects of complex disfigurement. It tends to be difficult to fix an expansive FOV picture to acquire viewpoint projection positions precisely. In light of on the perfect point of view projection imaging hypothetical record, it has been indicated that surfaces of insurgency of conelike region bends are the solitary mirror frames that can be combined with an individual combination projection camera to make single-perspective ( SVP ) , catadioptric omnidirectional position frameworks whose omniview picture can be opened up to viewpoint projection positions without orderly distortions. By using different typical cameras situated modestly comparable to a plane mirror pyramid, a high revelation, SVP, wide FOV framework can be fabricated. The exchange offs, however, are the high fiscal worth and complexnesss engaged with different cameras. Cumbersome size, weight, normalization, synchronism, and expansion contrasts are occupations related with multi-camera frameworks that solitary camera frameworks are liberated from. A SVP framework is beneficial if the advantages exceed the disadvantages for a particular application. The upsides of the single-camera, SVP, catodioptric family of omnidirectional imaging frameworks accompany a fiscal worth. The most significant tradeoff is a much lower picture spacial assertion contrasted and ordinary cameras, multi-camera omniview frameworks, or spinning typical camera examining framework since single-camera, SVP, catadioptric frameworks have a developed FOV without a relating expansion in the figure of physical inclination units ( fo r example , pels ) . Omnidirectional Image Screening System An omnidirectional creative mind framework comprising an agonizing mirror for sing object inside a side of the equator field of position structure an individual down to earth position point at the nearby focal point of said agonizing mirror, a projector for anticipating a light bar toward said agonizing mirror, and a variable frequency channel optically situated between said projector and said agonizing mirror for bring forthing a structure holding a spatially circulated frequency range of said agonizing mirror, where a generator receptive to the hemispherical picture informations for bring forthing 3-dimensional picture. Field of Invention The advancement presents a lot of strategies and arrangement for omnidirectional sound system creative mind. By â€Å" omnidirectional creative mind framework † , we mean a framework that can get pictures with a field-of-see ( FOV ) covering full side of the equator ( 180 strong unending edge ) , simultaneously with no mechanical moving part. The FOV of a customary camera or a light projector can be significantly expanded by utilizing an agonizing mirror appropriately positioned in forepart of the camera or the projector. A support of omnidirectional cameras can sort out an alone sound system creative mind of environing scene with 360 degree position edge. A mix of an omnidirectional camera and an omnidirectional organized noticeable radiation projector can other than gracefully an organizations to get quantitative three dimensional measurings of the articles around the camera framework. The omnidirectional three dimentional imaging strategies and arrangement introduced thus m ay offer alone answers for some functional frameworks that need incidental 360 evaluation sing point and three dimensional estimating capacity. A figure of assaults had been proposed in the days gone by for imaging frameworks to achieve wide FOV. None of them by and by can deliver 3D omnidirectional pictures. In the undermentioned passages, we give a quickly concentrate on the stake-of-the-specialty of current imaging frameworks that try to achieve expansive FOV. You read Taking a gander At The Term Omnidirectional Imaging Film Studies Essay in class Article models Prior to the development of omnidirectional camera, a camera with rotating parts is utilized to catch picture in all manner. In spite of the fact that it produce high announcement of picture, however it takes some clasp in catching it. Subsequently, some assault has been proposed in the days of old for imaging framework to achieve a wide field-of-see ( FOV ) . In any case, none of them can deliver 3D omnidirectional pictures. By and by, there are some imaging frameworks are delivered to look for a wide FOV: Regular Cameras Most bing imaging frameworks utilize electronic finder french friess or photographic film to enter optical picture gathered by its optical focal point framework. The picture projection for most camera focal points is demonstrated as a â€Å" pin-opening † with an individual focus of projection. Since sizes of camera focal point and the creative mind indicator have their handy limitations, the light shafts that can be gathered by a camera focal point and got by the creative mind gadget normally sort out a maize with extremely little hole edge. Consequently, precise FOV for traditional camera is inside an extent of 5 to 50 evaluations. For outline, a 8.5 millimeter F/1.3 camera focal point for 1/2 † CCD ( Charge Coupled Device ) bit just has a precise FOV of 41.2 evaluation. Fish-Eye Lenss Optical applied researchers had planned a few variants of wide-survey point focal point framework, called the fish-eye focal point. The fish-eye focal point includes a truly short central length which, when utilized in topographic purpose of customary camera focal point, empowers the camera to see object for a lot more extensive edge ( around 180 evaluation of side of the equator ) . All in all, the more extensive FOV, the more confused structure the fish-eye focal point has. To acquire a hemispherical FOV, the fish-eye focal point must be fairly large in measurement, complex in optical structure, and in this way costly. In addition, it is extremely difficult to design a fish-eye focal point that guarantees singular position point limitation, for example , all approaching boss obvious radiation pillars meet at an individual point to sort out a fixed perspective. This is so an occupation with business fish-eye focal points, including Nikon ‘s Fisheye-Nikkor 8-mm f/2.8 focal poin t. In spite of the fact that the procured picture by fish-eye focal points may end up being acceptable bounty for some visual picture applications, the misshapening remuneration issue has non been settled, and the high unit-cost stay to be significant hurdlings for its wide-spread applications. The fish-eye focal point strategy has the upside of following a statically situated camera to get an expansive edge of position. Anyway the nonlinear assets came about because of the semi-circular optical focal point mapping make the announcement along the round limit of the picture extremely hapless, while the FOV comparing to the round limit of the picture typically speaks to a land or floor where a high affirmation of picture

The Surrender Of Culture And Technology Essay - 1239 Words

Technology is a neutral tool that does not shape what humans desire, it solely allows people to fulfill their desires. If the main human desires are remaining constant and only the ways in which humans express themselves is changing due to technological advances, then technology does not alter human values and desires in a significant way. In the book Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology, Postman explains the evolution of human dependency on technology. He starts with the tool-using culture in which tools did not cause a change in culture, but were created to either solve a problem or create more efficient religious devotion. The next level, according to Postman, is technocracy. In this stage, tools are bidding to become the culture. And lastly, in a technopoly, tools have become the culture. Postman believes this transition is appalling because it changes the thought worlds of large groups of people. True, the thought worlds are changing due to the transition from one technology type to another Although, technology changes the way people think it is false to say that the basic desires and cultures of people are changing. This change in culture presented by Postman does not give evidence that people’s values change. People are living in other ways. Expressing themselves through other thought worlds . The Epic Of War And War - 1589 Words

For many centuries the best stories that have been told were of battles in war. It is as if humanity gravitates to conflict and suffering. Many believe the war was glorified in this tale and others believe it was not. If it wasn’t a war of glory, why is it such a reference board for even military schools? He was able however to depict the Greek traditions very well as the Greeks did pass through their â€Å"heroic age†, a time in which the whole Mediterranean world was marked by wars and confusion and the restless migration of its peoples. Homer indeed tried to justify this war when he started out with the gods, showing their involvement. The Ionians and Greeks favored the gods in those days. The Greek gods were an important part of their lives. Therefore referencing the theme of the war premeditated by way of the god’s conflict is way of justifying this event. Homer was saying well this war was inevitable given that it was prophesied by the gods. The main theme in this poem was the wrath of Achilles but we may want to rethink that and look instead in the theme the wrath of the gods. When reading this poem you may feel a bit saddened for the Trojan and still feel that same sense of well this war was meant to be anyway. There was no stopping it give the prince Paris gave the golden apple to Aphrodite who promised her the most beautiful women in the world. Answer: It separated and you can see the difference between the ethanol and the strawberry mixture. 4) Compare the amount of DNA you extracted with the amounts other groups in your class were able to extract. What may be the reasons for the differences in the amounts? Answer: Some of the other groups had more DNA or less, but the reason was that some groups got either a big strawberry or they got two regular sized strawberries. VII. Conclusion: In this experiment I investigated how to can extract DNA from a strawberry. I saw that adding an extraction solution and ethanol contributed to seeing the DNA looking like a thread like material. My major findings were that this was an easy job to do and was interesting to see how the strawberry mixture stayed at the bottom at the test tube, but when the ice cold ethanol layered on top the mixture started showing the DNA. When all the groups finished we looked at each other’s labs. Our group saw that some labs had fewer or more DNA extracted from their strawberry. I learned that to have more DNA extracted you have to be careful not to massage the mixture too much when you pour in the extraction solution, if you massage the mixture too much you get bubbles which cause the mixture to stop dripping when filtered. Overall this lab was fun and interesting and wouldn’t mind trying it again and fixing my flaws.

The London Blitz Essays - The Blitz, Battle Of Britain,

The London Blitz In September of 1940 through May of 1941 there was a strategic bombing attack that was lead by the Germans targeted towards London and other cities located in England, this was known as The Blitz. The Germans aimed the bombs mostly at populated cities, dock yards, and factories. The bombing on London began on September 7, 1940 and lasted for 57 consecutive nights. During these nights of bombing people took shelter in warehouse basements, and in underground subway stations with no privacy and poor sanitation facilities. British radar, detected the huge formation, the Observer Corps started to count the mass of German bombers in the sky, then came a warning call, One hundred plus bandits approaching... Fighter Command could do nothing but scramble all twenty two squadrons around London and they vectored towards Thames Haven and Tilbury. ......all we could see was row upon row of German raiders heading for London. I have never seen so many aircraft in the air all at the same time.....The escorting fighters saw us at once and came down like a ton of bricks, when the squadron split up and the sky became a seething cauldron of aeroplanes, swooping and swerving in and out of the vapour trails and tracer smoke. A Hurricane on fire spun out of control ahead of me while above to my right, a 110 flashed across my vision and disappeared into the fog of the battle before I could draw a bead on it. Everyone was shouting at once and the earphones became filled with a meaningless cacophony of jumbled noises. Everything became a maelstrom of jumbled impression - a Dornier spinning wildly with part of its port mainplane missing; black streaks of tracer ahead, when I put my arm up to shield my face; taking a breather when the haze absorbed me for a moment..... 1 The main reason for all of this bombing was to break up the morale of the British people so Hitler could pressure Churchill into negotiating. To Hitlers surprise the bombing had an opposite effect. The bombing actually brought the English people together. Between five and six o'clock on the evening of Saturday 7th September, some 320 German bombers supported by over 600 fighters flew up the Thames and proceeded to bomb Woolwich Arsenal, Beckton gas Works, a large number of docks, West Ham Power Station, and then the city, Westminster and Kensington. They succeeded in causing a serious fire situation in the docks. An area about 1? square miles between North Woolwich Road and the Thames was almost destroyed, and the population of Silvertown was surrounded by fire and had to be evacuated by water. At 8.10pm some 250 bombers resumed the attack which was maintained until 4.30 on Sunday morning. They caused 9 conflagrations, 59 large fires, and nearly 1,000 lesser fires. Three main line railway termini were put out of action, and 430 persons killed and some 1,600 seriously injured. After the fire brigades had spent all day in an effort to deprive the enemy of illumination, some 200 bombers returned in the evening (Sunday 8th) to carry on the assault. During this second night a further 412 persons were killed and 747 seriously injured, and damage included the temporary stoppage of every railway line in the south. 2 Many people thought that the first day of bombing was the worst, but infact they didnt know what they had coming for them. It was only the beginning of the worst. When the bombing began on September 7 and continued every night until November 2. Even though the consecutive nights of bombing ended it was still severe throughout 1941 and even into 1942. This first day of bombing was most dreadful. Most of us thought '...my God, what on earth is happening, this is it....we are finished', but of course, this was really only the beginning. Explosions were everywhere, there just was not a break, bang after bang after bang. The clang of bells from fire service vehicles and ambulances were drowned out by these bombs. You would here a whistle as a stick of bombs came down then a loud explosion as they hit factories and houses, the ground

Terms and Conditions May Apply Documentary The paper dwells on the specification of terms and privacy regulations through the analysis of Terms and Conditions May Apply documentary.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Terms and Conditions May Apply Documentary specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The motion picture starts with a cartoon element that regards the issue of terms agreements. Through the traditional representation of the problem, the director manages to reach a desirable effect: he links the procedure of Internet terms acceptance to the regular daily activities. After a general depiction of the concept of web privacy, the documentary reveals the problem in correlation to specific world companies that provide the global community with typical Internet services. These are such corporations as Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. Specifically, the authors of the terms and conditions fraud theory address the issue as a secret strategy that hides the concret e objectives of a particular Internet company under the multiple pages of plain textual reiterations that confuse the readers and leave the customers no choice, except for accepting the conditions of a corporation. The idea of terms and conditions reading turns to be ridiculous since, due to the filmmakers’ quantification, it can take approximately 180 hours a year for reading the complete terms and conditions that are assigned to the popular websites such as iTunes. The content of the documentary is based on a compilation of interviews that are given by the leading IT experts. Among them, there are Chris Anderson, Frank Heidt, and Brian Kennish. The specialists provide some consistent facts and data that support the idea of customers’ rights violations. For instance, the experts states that contemporary terms and conditions regulations seem to stipulate the invasions of privacy, for the web servers can remember the information about the clients, who accept specific co nditions, which becomes a subject for the further manipulations.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Thus, due to the film, the world Internet-users lose approximately $250 million on the frauds that are promoted by the occasional terms and conditions agreements (Hoback, 2003). The documentary reveals some cases of Internet privacy abuse that concerned some celebrated personages. For instance, the film contains the interview with Barack Obama, who admitted that his privacy rights were hindered through the Facebook service. The working mechanism of the terms and conditions manipulations is shaded and hard to disclose since the similar violations are usually conducted on the basis of legal regulations. Thus, the clients, who agree to the individual web regulation, may be unaware of the fact that their signature serves as a legal ground for the web page administration to emplo y their personal data. In fact, practically every act of terms and conditions contains the section that claims the employment of private data. Therefore, it is a primary responsibility of every Internet user to check the dedication of the agreement as well as the reliability of the certain website. Moreover, it is recommended to use the web page that possesses a long-established tradition of customers’ serving. The documentary emphasizes that certain Internet servers reveal the lowest inclinations to the terms and conditions manipulations. These are such web pages as Twitter and Reddit. In contrast to them, Google is described as one of the most corruption-driven sites that support the wide usage of private data misusage. In my opinion, the concept of terms and conditions violation is a direct consequence of the high information technologies development. Since the issue of private data usage stipulates such consequences as financial fraud transactions and verbal abuse, it is highly recommended to spend some time on cross-reading of the Internet agreement rules. Customer Service Excellence. Impact of technology on Customer Service Essay

Customer Service Excellence. Impact of technology on Customer Service Excellence - Essay Example Now-a-days, the customers have a huge variety of choices for each product and the organisations have to develop specific strategies that can help them in creating a distinctive image in the market and capture the attention of its targeted customers. In order to get the customer’s attention, almost every organisation is focusing on enhancing the customer experience by developing an effective customer service excellence strategy (Khan and Matlay, 2009). With dynamic changes happening in the customer needs, the organisations have to respond proactively so that they can maintain their competitive edge in the market; the companies have to be customer-centric as the technological advancements are allowing them to lower their cost of information exchange and solve customer problems effectively (Hilgers, 2007). Such advancements in the field of business require the companies to do re-evaluation of their value propositions and focus more on developing the products and services that wil l enhance a customer’s experience. ... Whether an organisation is offering a product or service, it is important for them to focus on providing excellent and out of the box customer service. In order to create demand in the market for their products and services, most of the organisations are now developing new and innovative offerings for services and their main aim is to provide the revenue producing solutions. One of the distinctive features of top ranked companies such as Singapore Airlines, Dell, Nokia, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Sony Corporation, Samsung, Apple and others is an appealing and differentiating service culture (Conklin, Powaga & Lipovetsky, 2004). Every customer is looking for the products and service offerings that will help them in having one to one interaction with the companies and ensure that they have the best buying and consumption experience. Importance of Customer Service Excellence According to Cook (2008), business models are an important aspect of every organisation and they determine four crucial elements that enhance performance and profitability of organisations i.e. choices of customers, costs of transactions, competition among companies and existence of heterogeneity among producers (companies) and customers. The customer service excellence is basically considered to be a challenge by organisations as they have to understand the customer’s perceptions about service excellence and then develop a culture that will meet their expectations level. The development of an effective customer service culture is difficult for organisations as every customer perceives differently about various service initiatives; for instance, helping customers in shopping is considered to be a

Euthyphro †Plato Essay Example for Free

Euthyphro – Plato Essay On his way to his trial, Socrates runs into his friend Euthyphro, there to prosecute his own father for the murder of a slave. From this state of affairs, Socrates engages Euthyphro in a dialogue that begins with questions regarding piousness and ends up unsatisfactorily attempting to come to a true answer. In the course of this discussion, definitions of concept of holiness emerge, only to be picked apart by Socrates. Ultimately, Socrates’ goal is a new definition of piety and subtle rejection of the very idea of gods, paving the way for Plato’s defense of his wrongly accused teacher. Socrates is shocked to learn that Euthyphro is prosecuting his own father. Euthyphro defends his actions, believing that it is just to do so even though his acquaintances maintain that â€Å"it is impious for a son to prosecute his father for murder† (Plato, 8). Quickly, Socrates gets to the heart of the matter. Euthyphro is positive in his belief, therefore Socrates asks him directly: â€Å"what is the pious, and what the impious? † (9). Euthyphro’s first definition of piety is simple: â€Å"the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the wrongdoer† (9). Socrates is quick to show Euthyphro that such an explanation is but an example. â€Å"I did not bid you tell me on or tow the many pious actions but that form itself that makes all pious actions pious† (10). This lies at the heart of Plato’s philosophy: that all things have an ideal form, and that one can gain knowledge of that form through examination. The argument being refined, Euthyphro delivers his second definition: â€Å"what is dear to the gods is pious, what is not is impious† (11). Socrates points out that â€Å"different gods consider different things to be just,† noting how in Greek mythology, the gods are as quarrelsome and fickle as human beings. â€Å"Try to show me a clear sign that all the gods definitely believe this action to be right,† Socrates demands (13). Euthyphro cannot, and so Socrates presses him to further refine his definition. Therefore, Euthyphro delivers his third definition: â€Å"the pious is what all the gods love, and the opposite, what all the gods hate, is the impious† (14). Socrates must quickly turn this definition on its head: â€Å"Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is loved by the gods? † (14). There is a circular reason here that Socrates traps Euthyphro in. By seeking to attach piety to the desires of the gods, one cannot separate the effect and cause. Does piety exist in some form, that the gods maintain and uphold, or is piety defined by the agreement of the gods? â€Å"It is not loved by those who love it because it is being loved,† Socrates asks, â€Å"but it is being loved because they love it? † (15). Now Euthyphro must admit that there is a difference between what is â€Å"god-beloved† and what is pious. Since what the gods love and piety are different ideas, Socrates puts for the connection between justice and piety. â€Å"Is then all that is just pious? † he prompts (17). Concerning piety and the gods, Socrates eventually sums Euthyphro’s beliefs as â€Å"piety would be a knowledge of how to give to, and beg from the gods† (20). In establishing this premise, Socrates is driving towards the very notion that got him indicted by Meletus: corrupting the youth and not believing in the gods. Of course, when pressed in a court, Socrates will maintain that he believes in the gods. He later states that his public career was at the behest of the gods, who challenged him to find one wiser than he. However, Socrates’ line of reasoning suggests that he does not actually believe in the gods. â€Å"What benefit do the gods derive from the gifts they receive from us? † he asks (21). Socrates is constantly pointing out to Euthyphro that piety and the notion of the gods are two separate notions. For example, when he asks: â€Å"Would you agree that when you do something pious you make some one of the gods better? † it appears that he is reducing the notion of what a god supposedly is to that of a changing and corruptible being (19). If the gods are what they are supposed to be, how can they be improved by a pious action of a mortal? It would seem only that some god-delivered idea of piety would transform the mortals, and not the other way around. Piety, then, my dear Socrates, is that which finds universal approval as a good among human beings. If we remove the gods from the equation, then piety becomes an idealized notion of goodwill between human beings. If we are to seek out a form of piety, then there cannot be infallible gods who change their minds and respond differently to different situation. Socrates: Yes, my friend, perhaps there is indeed a form of piety, as we have been seeking. However, by what measure do you define universal approval? Simple majority? Are we to vote on a common definition? If a majority of people go to war, and sanction the killing of others, is it pious to do so? If the cause is just, one must say yes. Socrates: If war can be pious, then what cannot fall under this definition? What is just and what are pious must be two different notions, as we have already discussed. Indeed you are correct, Socrates. Piety is fidelity to the truth. Perhaps if there is indeed a form of it somewhere, then we have instinctive knowledge of piety without being able to define it in human language. If Euthyphro has â€Å"no clear knowledge of piety and impiety† despite his convictions, is it possible that each one of us defines such morality on our own (22)? Perhaps, then, there is no form in the universe, and each one of grasps at straws attempting to satisfy an inner desire to make sense out of the chaos that is life. References Plato. Capital Punishment Essay - Death Penalty as a Deterrent to Crime :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays

The Death Penalty as a Deterrent to Crime Brutally murdered by a man no one would have suspected, an innocent twelve-year old girl was taken from her mother. Although, this poor girl's mother was stricken with grief and anger, she did not wish for this murderer to die for her own sake, but to protect other innocent girls like her own. She sat and watched, staring into the eyes of the man who had killed her daughter. She watched as they inserted the needle containing the fluid that would take his life. Is it morally unjust to execute criminals after they have committed a certain horrific crime upon another innocent victim? Until mid-twentieth century, this had been the tradition of practice, dating back to ancient times. In the United States especially, capital punishment is a hot topic of discussion and controversy. It is a difficult issue with many different points of view. Some are pro death penalty, others against the death penalty, and yet others with mixed feelings. So many different questions originate when the topic of the death penalty arises. Some of these are cost, sentencing equality, religious beliefs, the possibility of executing the innocent, and deterrence. These are just a few of the heated issues to consider. The death penalty is deterring crime, showing that individuals in the United States will be held responsible for their actions. Some of the first death penalty laws can be dated as far back as the Eighteenth Century. This was a time when death was the only punishment for all crimes. These death sentences were done by means of beheading, drowning, beating to death, and burning alive, among others. From 1823 to 1837, the death penalty was eliminated, in Britain, for over 100 of the 222 crimes punishable by death. In 1967, after many legal challenges through the courts, executions were stopped in the United States. Finally, the Supreme Court placed a suspension on capital punishment in 1972, although later allowed it in 1977, under certain conditions (Changes). Cost plays a major role in the death penalty. Opposing views say that it is far more expensive to execute someone than to give them life without parole. On the other hand, many others disagree. It has been estimated that life without parole cases will cost 1.2 million to 3.6 million dollars more than that equivalent to using the death penalty. On average, a life without parole sentence lasts thirty to forty years, while the annual cost of imprisonment is 40,000 to 50,000 dollars for each prisoner or more, each year (Lowe).

Kudler Fine Food is a specialty food store that caters their service to a variety of special clients. Providing great service has been a calling card for Kudler Fine Food. Since their first store was open back in 1998, they have enjoyed great success. This has also allowed them to open a few more locations. Having the ability to have a strong accounting information system and great business structure in place was vital to the growth and development of Kudler Find Food. Even though their current system has allowed them to have success, there are improvements that are needed that would allow them to operate effectively. This will lead to a more profitable company. Throughout the process we have developed several recommendations that have been offered to Kudler management staff that would help improve their current systems. Offering the improvement and implementation to Kudler accounts receivable, account payable, inventory system and how payroll is completed is vital to future success. Last week, the team offered suggestions that would improve production, reduce possible threats and increase profits. Along with improving how they process items that have been sold. In addition, the increased accuracy has reduced human error and better consistent communication has all been in relation with the new developed automation systems. Using the flow chart and the ER diagram, we have helped Kudler define their existing database. In addition, using pivot tables has allowed Kudler to move away from using spreadsheet which helped Kudler management make better decisions. When comparing the SAS70 to the SAS94 we learned that the SAS No. 94 was issued to provide guidelines to auditors; SAS No. 94 states that auditing through a computer can only take place â€Å"if the processing programs are soundly developed and incorporate adequate edit routines and programmed checks, then errors and irregularities are not likely to slip by undetected. We reviewed both external and internal risk and as Kudler developed their internal control and monitored them consistency, they were able to safeguard assets, ensure reliability, ensure compliance, and have an efficient and effective operation (Internal Controls (2014). Below, the brief will discuss and display how Kudler Fine Food can benefit from using the advancement in technology such audit software and (CAAT’s) or computer assisted auditing techniques. Introduction To allow themselves to be competitive in the market Kudler Fine Food had to improve and upgrade their system software. With the advancement in technology, more companies have become dependent upon computers to be the foundation of the business. Management must understand that all accounting information from computers must be valid, reliable, and most importantly accurate. The main objective of this brief is to discuss how CAAT can validate data and provide explanations to how it works. Finally, how this software can benefit and be used in Kudler AIS system. Validate Data and System Integrity The computer assist auditing techniques can help Kudler improve the effectiveness of an audit. The CAAT’s allows accountants and auditors to run tests and monitor financial data through automation. When using the software, auditors will see an increase in accuracy and production. The auditors will run tests to check if the data is valid by using test data. Test data is a set of fake tests that the auditors run through the application and compare the results with what he or she expects (Hunton 2004). The objective of the test is to determine if the technique check data validation controls and error detection and arithmetic calculation. The test is also done to verify the integrity of the data. Usually auditors would use a CAAT called extract and analyze where they would take samples of data and test them. But now more auditors are using computers which allows them to test 100% of data. For example, if an auditor was auditing Kudler payroll the auditors can look over the payroll and look for discrepancies that may be discovered. Data query is a CAAT that can detect fraud. A data query is a search to determine if the results fit within the context of evidence of the audits. The test includes tests of controls, substantive testing, and interviews with client personnel, risk assessment performed during audit planning, and the environment in which the business operates. The auditor should consider, for example:  ¦ Does the evidence make sense when other relevant trends are considered?  ¦ Does the evidence support assertions made by management or employees?  ¦ Does the CAAT pertain to an area identified as high risk? Functions of Audit Productivity Software If an auditor uses audit production software, they should notice and increase in effectiveness and productivity. Automation of data can save an auditor time and effort. Also, the CAAT can mismatch items and regulatory issues. Another advantage an auditor gains are electronic working papers, groupware, time and billing, reference libraries and document management. Electronic paper increases productivity because the auditor no longer is spending time on manually auditing work papers (Hunton 2004). Groupware allows sharing of information across firms and between the auditor and the clients (Hunton 2004). Time and billing software can ease the formerly erroneous process of accounting for chargeable hours and compiling and preparing bills accordingly (Hunton 2004). Reference libraries have two main reasons: to locate company-specific policies and procedures, and to search for authority when researching a particularly thorny problem (Hunton 2004). Document management software that has made online document storage readily available and practical has greatly enhanced the auditor’s productivity (Hunton 2004). Audit Productivity Software Kudler could use audit productivity software to assist with auditing their AR, AP, inventory and payroll. Kudler management should keep and update records of all policies and procedures. Having the ability to access groupware software employees can share information and best practices when preparing for an audit. Kudler could use document management to have online access to documents which should increase productivity. Finally time and billing can save money by automatically updating billing information. Conclusion One of the most important aspects is system integrity and providing valid data. If Kudler uses both productivity software and CAAT, it can be within their reach. For Kudler’s continued success it would be in their best interest to take advantage of these options.

Two Nations-Book Review Essays - Social Inequality, Discrimination

Two Nations-Book Review Book Review-Two Nations by Andrew Hacker In Andrew Hacker's book, Two Nations, Hacker argues that blacks and whites live in two different worlds. He uses statistical evidence to prove that the United States is a nation of inequality, hostility, and separatism. Hacker uses a quote from Benjamin Disraeli in the preface that basically sums up his entire book, ?Two nations, between whom there is no intercourse and no sympathy; who are as ignorant of each others habits, thoughts, and feelings, as if they were dwellers in different zones, or inhabitants of different planets.? This book reveals to all the real dimensions of race and how it controls lives and divides society. Hacker analyzes race in every aspect imaginable, such as politics, education, and crime. He shows how those in power use race as means of discrimination and domination. One issue Hacker addresses is Affirmative Action. I agree with his assertion that whites are afraid of it because they believe that ?it is enabling black America to be weak and subservient to the dictates of the society.? However, Affirmative Action may be one of the few programs designed to help blacks. I also agreed with Hacker's notion that society concentrates solely on ?black crime,? but then looks away in instances of ?white crime.? By ?white crime?, Hacker means non-violent crimes like embezzlement and ?black crimes? are the violent crimes like murder. Because society sees ?black crimes? as more dangerous, they tend to ignore ?white crimes.? As insightful as this book was, there was a great deal of things in it that I disagreed with. An issue brought up by Hacker that I disagree with is his perception that rape is a political act. Rape is an act of violence, whether white males commit it or black males or the victim is white or black. Rape is a horrible crime, politically motivated or not. I also disagree with Hacker's belief that blacks have right to retribution because of the centuries they served as slaves. Please. Hacker was never a slave. I've never owned a slave. What right does Hacker have in saying someone like him deserves retribution from someone like me? Hacker should realize that it is a new era, a new generation. Our generation shouldn't have to provide the black race with extra special treatment just because of what happened in the past. There was one section in this book that really touched a nerve. Hacker tends to think that his race is the only one that has suffered discrimination. He dismisses Hispanic and Asian discrimination as not so bad. He also says that terms like ?kike? and ?spic? do not have the same impact on a person as the term ?nigger.? Being Jewish, I find it quite annoying that Hacker thinks he can answer for me by saying the term ?kike? doesn't hurt my feelings as much as the term ?nigger? hurts his. The Jews have been discriminated against more than anyone can possibly comprehend. From the inception of the Nazi party in 1933, Jews were deprived of all their civil right, persecuted, imprisoned and murdered. Eventually, they were herded into concentration camps in an attempt to eventually exterminate them all. During World War II, the Nazis had killed 6 million Jews out of a population of 8 million. Over the period of TWELVE YEARS 6 million Jews were murdered! Therefore, I believe that I have a stak e to the claim of being a member of an ethnic group that has seen its share of discrimination. Hacker didn't bash the white race throughout he whole book. He also suggested that most blacks support double standards that they condemn whites for supporting. For example, Hacker said, ?most blacks find it acceptable to preserve black colleges, yet they object if a school designates itself as white.? He also said that blacks would support a black political candidate just because he is black. However, if a white person votes for a white candidate, it is because they are racist. Finally, Hacker ends the book with the question, ?whom is responsible for all this He says it is white America that made being a member of the black race so difficult. He may be right and he may be wrong by this.

Early in the 60’s, the united states were subjected to numerous housing challenges especially in urban centers. This p ressured the government to create an executive department that would solely address matters pertaining housing and the growth of cities. Consequently, a department in the name of housing and urban development was created as a substitute for the home finance and housing sub-division. The department was formed to offer several services to the ordinary citizens i.e. offer inexpensive housing services; uphold community development and many more others (Infoplease). The department of labor underwent several transitions before it finally stood out as a sovereign department. Initially, labor functioned as an agency under a certain executive department prior to its operation in the labor and commerce department (Henry, 375). Early in the 90’s, labor was separated from the department and thus operated as an autonomous executive department. Some of the functions dispensed to this department included flood control; the control and regulation of the navy, marine and other such like agencies. Technology Over the years, United States has grown technologically, with the introduction of numerous ideologies and hi-tech devices. However, these inventions and innovations possess a number of negative and positive impacts, which can influence a country in various capacities. In the attempt to control these impacts, the executive experienced a stretch in their duties and thus increasing their scope. In other words, the executive had to perform extra roles due to technological advancements i.e. to develop policies that regulate their use. The advances in technology, which are eventually incorporated in different departments, have immensely influenced the executive structures. Several offices have been created as a solution for the management of these high-tech equipment s in different executive departments.
